KnitCrate!

Hello 2015!  You are looking good.

KnitCrate is featuring a new pattern of mine in their Indie Crate this month .

What’s a crate? KnitCrate periodically sends a package to subscribers. The package contains yarn and a pattern for a surprise project along with other treats. There are different types of crates:  Beginners, Intermediate / Advanced, Sock and Indie. “Indie” as in independent by hand dyers of yarn. You should check it out.Tweed DK

The January Indie Crate will include 2 skeins of Jorstad Creek Tweed DK. Tweed DK is a 100% Merino yarn. If you are looking for a tweed yarn that is soft and squishy instead of scratchy or stiff, this is a yarn you should try.  Kerry Graber, the independent hand dyer at Jorstad Creek yarns, creates vibrant colors with a lot of depth.

Cedarbury Small HeaderCedarbury Large Header

With the yarn is my new Cedarbury Cowl pattern. This cowl will keep your neck warm in the coldest weather with rich texture from two different cables running from the outside edge to the neckline. The cowl is knit in the round with cables and twisted stitches as well as tapered by decreasing stitches as you work toward the neck of the cowl. The taper is distinct in the small cowl on the left worked with undyed Jorstad Creek Tweed DK yarn and subtle in the volume of the large cowl, which is made with Cascade 220.

The pattern includes directions for a small and a large cowl. Both cowls can be made with either a DK or worsted weight yarn. The final, blocked size depends mostly on how much you expand the piece during blocking, if you block at all. The important thing is to work at the right gauge for the yarn you are using.

The great pictures are by Christina Corrin Photography with Amber Gizinski as the model.

Traveler's Sock Header smaller

The Sock Crate this month features more Jorstad Creek yarn and another BK Collectiive pattern. Kerry Graber’s pattern for Traveler’s Creek Toe-up Socks accompanies BFL Tweed Sock yarn.. This sock is comfortable and fitted with a square “seamless” toe, an instep that fits snug to the foot, and a French heel modified for simplicity. The pattern also features a triangular gusset to help the sock rise from the arch to the ankle with a good fit. The fancy cuff features a series of “traveler” stitches that move from side to side like a creek tumbling down a hillside.

I very excited about being featured by KnitCrate with Jorstad Creek yarns and very pleased to be able to show you one of my new designs.  I said months ago that I was designing up a storm. And I was.  But the process of bringing a design to a published pattern seems (to me) to take forever. I’ll talk more about that in future posts.

Thanks for dropping by. I’m off to more KnitKnot Adventures.

Jann
