Another Spiral Cowl

I finished my third Spiral Cowl, this time with Crystal Palace’s Sausalito. Sausalito has a smaller gauge than the yarn in the other two cowls I’ve made in Noro Silk Garden Sock and Jorstad Creek’s Whidbey. You can see the first two cowls here.

Since the yarn was finer (6 – 8 stitches per inch), I used a US size 6 needle rather than a 7. I kept the same number of stitches which resulted in a slightly smaller cowl. I might add a couple of repeats if I used this yarn again.

I chose one of the options in the pattern and added rows to the length of the cowl. With the finer yarn and smaller needles, I did not need to narrow the neck. You can see my Ravelry project entry with all the details here.

Like Silk Garden Sock, this yarn has long color changes which show well in the cowl.

After blocking the first two cowls, I thought I might only wet the outer rim as the scallops in that area were the reason I wanted to block the cowl at all. Instead, I folded the cowl in half as shown in the picture. This approach worked well on the scallops but the wires created two blocked in fold lines. It took a fair bit of steaming to eliminate the folds.
